{Though our stories are often written, our platform welcomes stories told in other ways. We invite submissions of Spoken Word poetry or performance art, dance or music, and visual art as well. We only ask that if it's not a literary submission, that you offer some written contextualization of the piece.

"Home is America" by Amy Liu

Home is America:

where black men are poached like elephants and squashed like fruit flies

and bills that crinkle and burn are worth more than the silhouette epoch of life.

Home is America:

where the poor receive therapy via fast food drive-thru’s

and well-off citizens shield their families behind white picket fences

and children bring guns to school to shoot down hatred and anger and fear.

Home is America:

where I cry in sunken Chinatowns surrounded by bankrupt alleys

and hold mother tight before going out

because I may not return home.
